The Weighting game

Coming off a high volume week – & particularly the weekend – this was always planned to be a slightly easier week with a view to racing well on Sunday as a marker for the next small block of training.

Mon 20th 6 Easy / 7 Relaxed

Tues 5 E / 12 inc 3 x 2 miles off ~90 secs. Pleased with effort level round the streets, all inside 5:10 pace.

Weds 6 E / 13 Steady

Thurs 9 Session of 10 x 400m off 60secs, aim 66secs & came out between 60-67. Felt good.

Fri 6 E / 7 R

Sat 8 S

Sun 22 inc Prestwold 10K, 1st 31:21. Lonely run with Gordy 2nd in 33 high. Pic is about 200m after the start!

Total 102M, av 6:09, 4 1/4hrs cross training, weight 61.8kg

Things are coming together, although it is only early so consciously keeping things in check. A couple of good sessions & generally feeling comfortable at a decent speed. A bit frustrating to wake up on Sunday to hear the wind howling & with the final 2 miles straight back along one road I just hoped it would be a tail wind…it wasn’t! I knew this was likely to be a time trial with no names entered that I recognised but I still felt I was ready to run well inside 31 on the course & potentially sneak a PB. It was looking promising dropping down into Wymeswold, but as soon as I turned left at the bottom I knew it was going to be a long drag to the finish. Happy with my run & a good indication that my form is coming with a decent race to backup some good sessions over the last three weeks or so. Weight is almost there & is definitely making a difference already. Social on Saturday & Sunday meant avoiding the cake etc was tough, but it won’t be forever.

Some more specific stuff planned over the next few weeks & have a flat 10K this coming Thursday to run at tempo but if it’s a nice still evening that could well be faster than Prestwold was! 13 weeks, 11 weeks of training.
