February write off / March starts better

Having felt like I was making progress at last, a seemingly innocent stumble following a session aggravated my left knee resulting in severe pain after a couple of days & I was unable to run anything more than 15 minutes until the end of the month! It also meant no Alsager 5 which had been my early season target!

It did mean I was able to get on top of my glute issue, which having gone back to my previous physio was identified as being a result of a tilted pelvis rather than what we had been treating!! So a few simple exercises & a few painful physio sessions mean this is all back in line as I write. Hurray!

W/c 1/2 – 42M total, 9 1/4 hours cross training. Strong session on Tuesday, but knee pain from Wednesday afternoon – the start of a long month! No Alsager 5 on Sunday.

W/c 8/2 – 14M, 14 1/4 hours XT. 20 minute runs maximum & all painful after 10 minutes. Weight reasonable though!

W/c 15/2 – 13M, 17 1/4 hours XT. Up to 30 minutes, pain is less severe.

W/c 22/2 – 16M, 18 1/4 hours XT. Up to 6M at a decent pace almost pain free! Weight good considering.

W/c 29/2 – 55M, 4 hours XT. Ran daily from Tuesday, included some efforts through the week. Having managed to change my entry to Den Haag Half to the 10K I was both pleased & surprised to come away with the win in a not too shabby 31:15. A pleasing time considering I had been cross training & jogging for a month! Followed by 10 miles supporting Rob & Jo in the Half, with  welcome return to form for Jo with her second fastest Half ever & inside 90 minutes for only the third time. Tulips & trophy below (a quick warm down to the hotel to drop these off before the Half):

W/c 7/3 – 64M, 2 3/4 XT. Just steady running this week as the race did aggravate my glute again.

This week has seen posts all over social media about London being only 40 days away! Given that, & my lack of mileage let alone quality this year’s race won’t be what I had wanted. We travel to Torrevieja for a fortnight’s training at Sportscity for the second half of March & I’m just happy to be in full working order for that.

Assuming that all goes to plan then I’ll come back to race the Midlands 12 Stage the day we land & Loughborough Half (www.loughboroughhalf.co.uk) the following day. From there I’ll have a good idea of fitness & my current thoughts are to be in shape to run London to a reasonable level, looking at something around my current PB. I’ll run this with a view to a negative split, going out in around 71 which should leave me in a better position to train following this.
My main focus though has moved to the Highgate 10,000m on the 21st May & bing in the best shape possible for a crack at going inside 30 minutes there.
Well that’s the plan!
