So last week didn’t go to plan, & I’m therefore catching up a bit after several down weeks. A busy week at work together with still carying a bit of illness means I might struggle for the really high mileage but with a big weekend planned I should be well over 100 miles again.
Mon 23/3 pm 10.4M Relaxed inc strides. First faster work for a while, felt quite good! Continue reading
The final push starts here! 5 hard weeks (Edit, 4 weeks – illness took over), one taper week & then it’s show time. Feeling good & ready to push on with some focussed marathon work. I’ve got the Midland & National 12 Stage races, & will ease down slightly for the National but otherwise it will be right through to London now.
Mon 16/3 am 8M Easy / 1hr Ski, pm xxM Relaxed (back commuting now when possible). Legs felt good, but sweating buckets!
After racing hard on Sunday this week was always planned to be an easy week to fully recover & be able to push on for the last 4-5 weeks of marathon training. We felt I had run too hard to soon after Stamford 30K so agreed to take it very easy until Thursday & then assess the rest of the week from there. Continue reading
The one target race in this year’s marathon build up. Despite feeling that I’d missed some quality since a good run at Stamford 30K I felt in good shape for a PB & flew out wit the intention of hitting 5 minute miles from the start which would bring me back in just under 66 minutes – more than a minute off my PB from Cardiff & a time I’d be elated with (Andy thought low 65’s, but I think the pills he’d been taking for a recent virus had gone to his head)! As planned, this week was a slight easing off into The Hague Half Marathon (see separate race report) although still looking to maintain reasonable mileage. After a very good long run on Sunday I felt fairly confident going into this week, albeit quite tired!
Mon 2/3 am 5M Easy, pm 8M Relaxed. Felt ok today, a bit tired but not too bad.
After a great block of training it was frustrating to have to take a couple of easy weeks after Stamford due first to recovery from that race, but then because of a continuing niggle with my calves/Achilles. Far from ideal with the Hague just next week, but with London as the main target it was more important to get back to 100% for the final push towards that.
Mon 23/2 pm 8.7M Steady. Shattered today so no morning run, & slightly short due to having to be at Dan Francisco’s Promo video night by 7pm (fantastic performance!). Continue reading
